Abstract

Amidst viral Covid-19 emergency, the minister of education and culture has instructed the teachers or lecturers and learners to utilize the social media as online teaching-learning process. In this case, the researchers tried to find out the college learners’ reading interests through social media (WhatsApp group). This research applied a case study design in which the data sources were interview and self-report questionnaire. The result of interview showed the college learners were interests and fun, enjoy, confident. Additionally, the college learners also had much time to read, and got new experiences. The result of self-report questionnaire described almost all college learners felt happy, enthusiastic, enjoy, confident, satisfied, belonged to WhatsApp group, better communication, and also the college learners had much time to read, a great deal of information, and academic achievement. WhatsApp group has become online teaching-learning media that can raise the college learners’ reading interests amidst viral Covid-19 emergency. The educators and learners were suggested to use the social media such as WhatsApp group as online teaching-learning media during pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine student responses to English Mathematics lectures using the silent way method and also to determine students' speaking skills when the method was applied. Aspects assessed from speaking skill include grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation. This study uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods which aim to see the responses and learning outcomes of students in the form of speaking skills using English mathematics with Integer and Fractions material. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the responses and speaking skills of students in English mathematics lectures on the topic of integers and fractions at Madura University are generally good. The response given by students to lectures with this method is positive. Meanwhile, the speaking ability score which includes 5 aspects is also good, namely the students' grammar mastery of 35.9% who got a score of 3 in the very good category, vocabulary mastery of 47.2% in the very good category, and 41.5% of the comprehension mastery with very good category, fluency mastery of 20.7% in very good category, mastery of pronunciation indicator by 16.2% in very good category.

Abstract

The teacher is not only used verbal communication but also used nonverbal communication, this article aims to investigate the teacher use nonverbal communication in teaching learning process and the teachers’ nonverbal communication effect on the classroom atmosphere at SMP Negeri 2 Robatal Sampang. The subjects of the study are the teacher and the students. The instruments used to get the data were observation, interview and documentation. The results of the shows that the teachers’ nonverbal used in teaching learning process are hands, space and distance, touching and chronemics. Beside that the effect of nonverbal communication used were helping students understanding and accompanying to verbal message. Helping students understanding more easily to a students to receive the material that’s explains by the teacher. Accompanying to verbal message is a student’s more easily understand to get the point of teachers’ explanation in teaching learning process..

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is essential part of English as a foreign language. In teaching vocabulary, the teachers had responsibility to make their teaching successful. There are four ways of teaching vocabulary. Definitional methods, Contextual methods, Organizational and Mnemonic instructional methods. In this research the researcher used the contextual method. Riddle game is the nouns all refer to something baffling or confusing which is to be solved.  In this research the researcher used the qualitative research. After implementing riddle game, the criteria of success has been fulfilled. It means that the students’ vocabulary achievement was better than before. Based on these result, the students got many improvements, the improvements could be seen from the way they thought logically and creatively, they solved the puzzle the riddle provides and they did the test well.

Abstract

This recent study aims to examine the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery through digital storytelling at the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo and describe the implementation of digital storytelling in teaching vocabulary at the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan.  The research design is Classroom Action Research. The participants were the teacher (collaborator) and the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo. Data collection was an interview and vocabulary test. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and descriptive statistic. The findings revealed that the use of digital storytelling media was effective to engage students’ vocabulary mastery. It gives students to have chances to practice the vocabulary in their language skills. Meanwhile, the result of quantitative data showed that there was a significant and consistent improvement of students’ mean score in pre-cycle (44, 42), cycle 1 (45.03) and cycle 2 ( 73.89). Thus, there was approximately 29.42 point of improvement during the cycles. The result indicates that the use of digital storytelling media is effective to engage the students’ vocabulary mastery of the  fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo.
